London, July 28 (IANS) Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz agreed to marry an unknown fan at the Comic-Con 2009 convention in San Diego, California.

The “What Happens in Vegas” actress was given the unexpected proposal when answering questions from fans at the convention. An unidentified man shouted out to the star: “Will you marry me?” and she answered: “Yes! Where are you? Why not?”, reports imdb.com

Diaz, however, did have one stipulation for her potential fiance - that they tie the knot in the US gambling capital Las Vegas.

“Can we get married in Vegas? I always wanted to get married in Vegas,” she quipped.

Washington, July 29 (ANI): Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is set to return to music charts with her new album in collaboration with singer/songwriter Pete Yorn.

The 24-year-old actress hit the charts last year (08) with an album full of Tom Waits tunes.

She had recorded tracks for Break Up in 2007 - and now Yorn plans to release the project in September (09).

Yorn hopes to recreate the kind of the working relationship between French stars Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot with the actress.

“I was really into Bonnie & Clyde at the time, by Serge and Brigitte, and I thought, ‘Brigitte… Scarlett! She’s Brigitte!’ It was a really manic thought pattern that was going on. Within 10 minutes, I was texting Scarlett: ‘We have to make a record!’” Contactmusic quoted him as telling Billboard.com.

Yorn reveals he and his new partner are hoping to tour with their new album.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to put a couple of events together where we could perform a little bit,” he added. (ANI)

London, July 28 (IANS) Hollywood actress Katie Holmes narrowly escaped unhurt after a car caught fire on a movie set.

The actress, who is currently in Australia filming “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”, was reportedly shooting a scene in the vehicle when the battery exploded and the actress was left shaken after dashing from the car just before it burst into flames, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“Katie was inside a car when the vehicle’s battery exploded. It was sparking smoke and fumes before the car caught fire. The exploding battery was not a part of the film,” said a source from the production unit.

A remake of a 1973 TV movie, the film has Holmes playing a woman who is stalked by wicked gnomes.

Hollywood could be looking at its biggest Memorial Day weekend ever.

With two big-budget “event” films opening and both expected to perform very well, if not quite spectacularly, total ticket sales Friday through Monday could easily surpass the $254.6-million record that, according to Hollywood.com Box Office, was set in 2007.

It has been four years since studios released two major pictures against each other over Memorial Day weekend. But “Terminator Salvation,” which will attract primarily men, and “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” a family film, appeal to entirely different audiences. That means they’re unlikely to substantially cut into each other’s grosses.

Neither “Terminator Salavation,” which Warner Bros. opened Thursday, nor “Night at the Museum,” which Fox debuts today, are expected to do as well as the last three movies to open on Memorial Day weekend. “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “X-Men: The Last Stand” all grossed substantially more than $100 million over four days.

Pre-release tracking indicates “Terminator Salvation” could make about $70 million by Monday. The fourth film in the 25-year-old series grossed $3 million from midnight shows and, according to people following ticket sales, was likely to gross in the low teens Thursday.

Last year on the Thursday before Memorial Day, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” grossed $25 million and went on to take in $152 million by Monday.

“Terminator Salvation,” which cost about $200 million, was financed by Halcyon Co. The film is being distributed by Warner Bros. domestically and Sony Pictures overseas, where it will be released in two weeks.

“Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” is tracking even stronger and should benefit from the lack of other family movies in the marketplace. It will easily surpass the $30.4-million opening of the first “Night at the Museum” in December 2006 and could earn more than $80 million over four days. It’s playing at 160 Imax theaters, which should provide an extra boost to the grosses.

“Smithsonian” opens simultaneously in every major foreign market except Japan, Mexico, South Korea and China. The original “Night at the Museum” performed better overseas, where it grossed $323.6 million, compared with $250.9 million in the U.S. and Canada.

Also opening this weekend is Paramount’s “Dance Flick,” a spoof of dancing movies such as “Step Up” from the Wayans brothers. It’s targeting a narrow niche of teenage girls and probably will gross about $10 million.

The new issue of Us Weekly reports that Jon & Kate mom Kate Gosselin — known for being short with her husband, Jon Gosselin — is even more combative with her family and employees.

Baby nurse Angela Krall, who watched the sextuplets as infants for more than a year, tells Us that the short-fused Kate fired 40 nurses and nurse’s aides in the three months before she was hired. 

A 2005 Associated Press story reported that a pre-TV Gosselin had petitioned the state to extend payments for Krall, whose fees were first paid by Medicaid (Jon was unemployed; Medicaid provides limited assistance to premature babies). 

“Kate Gosselin said she feels society has a responsibility to help with the children, since modern medicine promotes the use of fertility drugs, which can lead to multiple births,” the AP reported.

While Kate praised Krall in the same story, Krall reveals that Kate posted “demeaning” signs in every room detailing rules, and fired one woman on the spot for washing her hands in the kitchen instead of the bathroom. “Kate flipped,” says Krall. “She thought it was cross-contamination.”

That level of perfectionism also tore her apart from her father, Kenton Kreider, a pastor, after he gave her cribs donated by his parishioners. 

“They didn’t match and Kate rejected them,” says a family source. “Things like that caused a rift.” Krall, who says all six babies ended up with matching cribs, tells Us Kate “thought they were owed stuff. The money factor was huge.”

Indeed, a now-famous Gosselin has spent 21 out of the last 30 days on the road at paid speaking engagements; after she made news last week admitting that she might leave Jon, she continued on her book tour for five days as her husband tended to the kids. 

Kris tests his ‘Boundaries’ 

It’s official: I do not like this song.

That absolutely was not Kris’ best performance, and it appeared at some points he was forcing the notes.

Even Kara appears to be almost apologetic and acknowledges that the song may have been too high for him. It seems like all of the judges are already saying goodbye to Kris.

Kris says he and Adam decided they weren’t coming out tonight to compete but just to give a good show? Well, that is a problem.

It’s a competition, and I hope Kris doesn’t look back on this last performance as the thing that did him in.

Adam knows ‘No Boundaries’

Good to see all of the past contestants.

Adam takes a stab at “No Boundaries,” which is co-written by Kara and I don’t love the song. Maybe it’s because Adam appears to be doing the Glam Rock version. When the first notes started I thought it might be a cross between a Disney theme and a Celine Dion song, but not so much.

Kara looks pleased with herself. Oh Lord, I was hoping we would make it through a finale without hearing the word “pitchy,” but it’s not to be thanks to Randy.

I think Paula managed to give a critique without even commenting on the song and that actual performance. That takes talent. Simon says the show has found “a worldwide star” in Adam.

I do have to give it to Lambert, he is cool as a cucumber up on that stage. So chill and completely at home

There was a lot going on with Drew Barrymore’s outfit yesterday afternoon as she headed into a studio in LA. Between the one glove and the tie-dyed bra and leggings, it was just the latest expression of Drew’s unique style. One accessory she wasn’t sporting was her constant companion Justin Long, as they’ve apparently been trying to keep things low-key recently. She’s still finishing up production on her directorial debut Whip It!, which hopefully will be yet another success for Drew after her work in the well-received Grey Gardens.

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long were careful not to be spotted leaving Dos Caminos together after dinner there last night in NYC. They’ve claimed that they’re just close friends these days, but they do seem to be spending an awful lot of time together and are constantly followed by rumors of rekindled love. They may just be practicing for their upcoming romantic comedy, but if this once PDA-loving couple is reunited, they can only hide a relationship for so long.

Eminem is known for saying exactly what he feels, but even he thought twice before lampooning Jessica Simpson in his latest video. In the video for “We Made You,” a heavy Simpson lookalike eats a hamburger and gyrates in her daisy dukes with a Tony Romo lookalike. 

“Tony Romo is one of my favorite quarterbacks,” Eminem tells Detroit’s Metro Times. “So I felt kinda conflicted doing the Jessica thing.” 

The original plan was to have a slender Jessica Simpson lookalike in the video. “When I say, ‘Jessica Simpson, sing the chorus,’ we were gonna have a chick who looked like Jessica Simpson come out and sing,’ he says. 

As the video was shooting, Simpson’s curvier figure started making headlines, prompting Eminem to change the video. “But then Jessica got fat,” he says. “I mean, not really fat but she certainly got fat for … well, Jessica Simpson got fat for Jessica Simpson!”

In the interview, Eminem says that his singles are “little time capsules of what’s going on in pop culture right at that moment.” 

Sometimes, the little time capsules can ruffle some feathers. Nick Cannon recently wrote a scathing blog entry directed at the rapper over comments he made about Mariah Carey. It wasn’t the first time that a celebrity has tangled with Eminem; he has a history of high-profile feuds. 

Still, he prefers historical accuracy over some occasional hurt feelings. “I’ve always wanted people to be able to look back at each video and go, ‘Oh, remember what was going on at that moment!’ ” he says. ” ‘Oh, that’s when Jessica Simpson got fat.’ And even if she gets thin again, that’s fine. But for that moment in time, she was fat.” 

Miss California Carrie Prejean will keep her crown, Miss USA pageant owner Donald Trump announced at a press conference Tuesday at Trump Tower in New York City.

Prejean, 21, failed to reveal before last month’s Miss USA pageant that she had posed in her underwear as a teenager. But Trump said, “We are in the 21st century … and Carrie is a model, she’s a very successful model, we have determined and we have the absolute right under the contract we have determined that the pictures taken are fine.”

(He also praised Prejean for being honest when she said she was against same sex marriage at last month’s pageant. Trump said she gave a “very honest answer when asked a very tough question. Its the same answer that the President of the United States gave.”)

Fighting back tears, Prejean, who attended the conference, thanked Trump for “believing” in her.

“Most importantly, I would like to thank God,” she said.

Prejean first ignited controversy at the April 19 pageant when she told judge Perez Hilton that she believed marriage should be between only a man and a woman, igniting a cultural debate. The runner-up said her answer cost her the crown.

Prejean later announced that she’ll be launching a campaign opposing gay marriage with the National Organization for Marriage.

A short time later, racy photos surfaced. Prejean said the pictures were leaked to humiliate her because of her anti-gay marriage views, calling it a “vicious and mean-spirited” attacks. (Even more photos hit the web before Trump’s press conference Tuesday morning.)

On Monday, California pageant officials announced that Prejean violated her contract by lobbying on behalf of an anti-gay-marriage group and by failing to reveal that she had posed in her underwear as a teenager.

They appointed Tami Farrell, her runner-up, as “Beauty of California Ambassador” to fulfill any duties that Prejean might not be able to carry out. As for whether Prejean should be stripped of her crown, they said only Trump can make the decision.

Kate Gosselin, whose adventures raising twins and sextuplets are chronicled on the hit TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus Eight, is fighting back at reports that she has been having a more-than-platonic relationship with Steve Neild, a bodyguard who frequently travels with her and her family. 

Two weeks after stories linked her husband, Jon Gosselin, with a 23-year-old school teacher, Kate says she is now the target of tabloid lies. “The next story coming out from the animals that stalk us is about our security person and his family,” Kate tells PEOPLE exclusively. “Already the allegations they’re making about me are disgusting, unthinkable, unfathomable, and I am horrified.” 

“These are people who absolutely love us and want to see us through to the end,” Kate says of Neild and his family. “Of course, both of them travel with us at times, and we’ve spent holidays together, because, in this situation, your circle grows smaller and smaller, and it’s very natural to become friends with your manager, your publicist, your security team … they’re the only people you have left. And now they’re coming under fire.” 

With few close companions, and her marriage to Jon hitting a rough patch, Kate says she is terrified that this latest round of stories will drive away the friends she and her family have left. “I’m totally panicking, and thinking, ‘We are going to lose our last set of friends.’ I keep calling them, begging, ‘Seriously, I’m so sorry. Don’t run away from us.’ They keep saying, ‘We’re fine, we’re fine.’ But they have paparazzi in front of their house. It’s so upsetting.” 

Most troubling to her is the realization “we opened our world to this,” she says, adding, “but we willingly made a conscious decision to put this out there. Our friends and family did not. I had no idea we would potentially take down the people that we love around us.” 

She adds: “It’s like saying, ‘Thanks for your support, let me sic the paparazzi on you.’ It’s very very difficult. It leaves us, essentially, alone and friendless. It’s terrible.

Ultimately, Kate says she does not know what she can do to stop the insanity. “The scary thing for me is [the tabloids] are going to take information and create a story. It’s a matter of, ‘When will they stop?’ They’re going to keep going, and they’ll make up stuff to connect the dots.”
